CHAPTER
FOUR
BAPTISM IN JESUS NAME
Part Three - Ask
Yourself Why?
In this part you can test your reasoning behind why
you are, or were, baptized. You will discover whether you
have been influenced purely by the scriptures, or by the
traditions of men. Remember from chapter one that it was
brought out that Jesus said the traditions of men were a
vain worship. Vain, according to Vine's dictionary of
Biblical words, means- "a fault, a folly... to no
purpose". In other words, a spiritual "dead
end".
| Why baptize in
the name of Jesus Christ? |
Why
baptize in the titles Father, Son, and Holy
Ghost? |
| A. Because this is
what the apostles invariably commanded-Acts 2:38,
8:16, 10:48,19:5, 22:16. Their understanding was
opened by Jesus Himself-Luke 24:36,45-46. |
1. Because it is
traditional in my church. |
| Then why did Jesus say to
baptize in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy
Ghost? |
Then why did the apostles
invariably baptize in Jesus' name exclusively? |
| B. Because Jesus is the revealed
name of the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost- John
5:43,10:25, 17:1,6,26, Isaiah 9:6, Phil. 2:10-11
with Isaiah 42:8, John 14:26, Colos.1:26-27, with
1 Cor. 6:19. |
2. Because "in the name of
Jesus" literally only means "by the
authority of Jesus" Warning!
There is no scripture that states this. It is
a personal interpretation, a tradition of men,
and therefore a vain worship!
-Dead End-
|
| C. Because every doctrinal
reason for being baptized in scripture reveals
that one name, Jesus, is clearly, obviously, and
positively specified (For example-Mark 16:16 with
Luke 23:47, Acts 2:38, & 4:12; Gal.3:27,
Rom.6:3-5, etc.). The only exception is Matthew
28:19, and that passage can be shown that only
the name of Jesus could be indicated. If not,
then the apostles disobeyed the Lord, and the
Bible contradicts itself (which isn't possible) |
3. Because Jesus said to in
Matthew 28:19. Warning!
"...In the mouth of two or three
witnesses shall every word be
established" -2 Cor. 13:1, Matt.18:16.
Therefore basing doctrine on one verse of
scripture is a-
-Dead End-
|
| D. To identify with Christ in
His death and burial- "Buried with Him in
baptism..." -Col.2:12. "...So many of
us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were
baptized into His death..." -Rom.6:3-4. |
4. To identify with the Trinity. Warning!
The scripture says we are "Baptized into
His death" -Rom. 6:3 and we are "buried
with Him in baptism" -Col.2:12. Neither the
Father, nor the Holy Ghost died. To be baptized
into the Father and the Holy Ghost contradicts
and nullifies the Biblical purpose of water
baptism. Therefore, this reason for not using the
name of Jesus is a-
-Dead End-
|
| E. Because in Christ
"...dwells all the fulness of the
godhead....and ye are complete in
Him...." Col.2:12. Because- "....There
is none other name under heaven given among
men..." -Acts 4:12 And finally, because we
are commanded to "believe on the
name..." -1 John 3:23. |
5. Could it be because you are
not convinced that all power is given to Jesus in
heaven and in earth (Matt.28:18), and therefore
you are reluctant to rely solely on the name of
Jesus Christ for salvation? Warning!
"...By the name of Jesus...there is
none other name under heaven given among men,
whereby we must be saved" -Acts 4:12.
"And this is His commandment, That we should
believe on the name of His Son Jesus Christ. -1
John 3:23. Not believing in the name of Jesus
Christ is definitely a-
-Dead End-
|
In Conclusion-
"Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized
into Jesus Christ were baptized into His death? Therefore
we are buried with Him by baptism into death: that like
as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the
Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
For if we have been planted together in the
likeness of His death, we shall be also in the likeness
of His resurrection." -Romans 6:3-5.
"And He said unto them, Go ye into all the world,
and preach the gospel to every creature. He that
believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that
believeth not shall be damned." -Mark 16:15-16.
"And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be
baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of
the Lord" -Acts 22:16.
"...Ye are washed... in the name of the
Lord Jesus..." -1 Corinthians 6:11.
"When they heard this, they were baptized in the
name of the Lord Jesus" -Acts 19:5.
