The Figurative facts!

There are several facts by which we can know that Jesus was speaking figuratively, rather than literally, because...

a) They didn't literally eat Jesus' flesh, did they?? Of course not. They were obviously, therefore, only figuratively eating His flesh, and drinking his blood. He said Mat 26:28 "...this * IS * my blood of the new testament, which * is * shed for many for the remission of sins." He had not yet shed His blood, had He? Since He said- "which is shed" (past tense) and His blood had not yet been shed, He was, again, obviously talking figuratively, and to attach any literal significance, they would have actually had to eat His very flesh right there on the spot- "this is my blood"! Anything short of that is an insult to any thinking man's intelligence!

b) Jesus still referred to the wine as fruit of the vine, not His literal blood- Mat 26:29 "But I say unto you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father's kingdom." this would be an absurd, if not blasphemous, thing to say if the wine were actually, literally, His very own blood!

c) "Mat 26:28 "For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins." Are we to understand that the whole New Testament was literally in the cup, and that when it is drank, the whole New Testament is being drank? Again- He was obviously speaking figuratively.

d) If the Catholics are correct, and the wine was literally Christ's blood, and not figurative, then they would have Jesus Christ drinking His own blood- 1Co 11:25 "After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me." It would have been a sin for Jesus to have drank blood, for it was commanded against- Deu 12:16 "Only ye shall not eat the blood; ye shall pour it upon the earth as water." And we know that in Him is no sin (1Pe 2:21-22).

e) If the Apostles and the disciples and the rest of the church actually, literally drank blood, they also sinned against their very own commandments, which would have made them hypocrites- Act 15:19 "Wherefore my sentence is... 20 ...that we write unto them, that they abstain... from blood."
