Tongues- Sola Scriptura!

I was once accused that I was not quoting scripture that contradicts other's counter-opinions to this One-God, Acts 2:38 message, but that I was only contradicting their opinions by my interpretations of the scriptures. At the same time I was challenged to prove that tongues speaking is a necessity in the Bible. The man went by the handle Riverfinder. Here is my response to those accusations-

"You are NOT quoting scripture that contradicts my position. You are quoting scripture and interpreting it in a way that contradicts my position. If all of the scriptures you've used so far were all that you posted, I would have nothing to quarrel with." - Riverfinder

So, if I was only quoting scripture you wouldn't have any argument, eh? And if I only quote scripture, you won't get offended?

So, in order to PROVE to you that I am not preaching my personal opinions, and offer you the same opportunity, I'm going to challenge you in our conversations that FROM NOW ON-

1 Pet. 4:11 "IF ANY MAN SPEAK, LET HIM SPEAK AS THE ORACLES OF GOD..."

2 Tim 3:14 "...knowing... 15... that... THE HOLY SCRIPTURES... ARE ABLE to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. 16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is PROFITABLE FOR DOCTRINE, FOR REPROOF, FOR CORRECTION, for instruction in righteousness: 17 That the man of God may be perfect, THROUGHLY FURNISHED UNTO ALL..."

Jer 23:16 "Thus saith the LORD of hosts, Hearken not unto the words of the prophets that prophesy unto you... Isa 28:11 "For with stammering lips and another tongue WILL HE speak to this people. 12 To whom he said, THIS IS THE REST wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing"

Joh 3:7 "Marvel not that I said unto thee, YE MUST BE BORN AGAIN. 8 The wind bloweth where it listeth, AND THOU HEAREST THE SOUND THEREOF... ****SO IS EVERY ONE**** THAT IS BORN OF THE SPIRIT."

1Co 14:21 "In the law it is written, With men of other tongues and other lips will I speak unto this people; and yet for all that will they not hear me, saith the Lord. 22 WHEREFORE TONGUES ARE FOR A SIGN..."

Act 10:45 "on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost. 46 **FOR** THEY HEARD THEM SPEAK WITH TONGUES, and magnify God. Then answered Peter, 47 Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we?"

1 Cor 14:22 "WHEREFORE TONGUES ARE FOR A SIGN..."

2 Cor 3:3 "Forasmuch as YE ARE MANIFESTLY DECLARED TO BE THE EPISTLE OF CHRIST ministered by us, WRITTEN NOT WITH INK, BUT WITH THE SPIRIT of the living God; NOT IN TABLES OF STONE, BUT IN FLESHY TABLES OF THE HEART."

Heb 12:18 "For ye are not come unto the mount that might be touched, and that burned with fire... 22 But ye are come unto mount Sion... 24 And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant... that speaketh better things... 25 SEE THAT YE REFUSE NOT HIM THAT SPEAKETH. For if they escaped not who refused him that spake on earth, MUCH MORE SHALL NOT WE ESCAPE, IF WE TURN AWAY FROM HIM THAT SPEAKETH FROM HEAVEN:... 29 For our God is a consuming fire.

Luk 3:16 "...He shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire"

Act 2:1 "And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were ALL WITH ONE ACCORD in one place. 2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. 3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance."

Heb 10:1 "For the law having a shadow of good things to come..."

"Moses brought forth the people out of the camp to meet with God... And mount Sinai was altogether in a smoke, because the Lord descended upon it in fire... and the whole mount quaked greatly. "Out of heaven He made thee to hear His voice, that He might instruct thee: and upon earth He shewed thee His great fire; and THOU HEARDEST HIS WORDS OUT OF THE MIDST OF THE FIRE" -Deuteronomy 4:36.

"Our God shall come, and shall not keep silence: a fire shall devour before Him, and it shall be very tempestous round about Him. He shall call... that He may judge His people" -Psalm 50:3-4.

"...From His right hand went a fiery law for them. Yea, He loved the people; all His saints are in thy hand: and they sat down at thy feet; EVERY ONE SHALL RECEIVE OF THY WORDS" -Deuteronomy 33:3.

"...Whom shall He teach knowledge?... and doctrine?... WITH STAMMERING LIPS AND ANOTHER TONGUE WILL HE SPEAK to this people. To whom He said, This is the rest... and this is the refreshing..." -Isaiah 28:9-12.

"...YE MUST BE BORN AGAIN. The wind bloweth... and thou hearest the sound thereof... SO IS EVERYONE that is born of the Spirit (every one shall receive of thy words -Deut. 33:3)" -John 3:7-8.

"See that ye REFUSE NOT HIM THAT SPEAKETH. For if they escaped not who refused Him that spaketh on earth, much more shall not we escape, if we turn from Him that speaketh on earth... For our God is a consuming fire" -Hebrews 12:18-29.

1 Cor 14:22 "WHEREFORE TONGUES ARE FOR A SIGN..."

Act 1:4 "And, being assembled together with them, **COMMANDED THEM THAT THEY SHOULD... WAIT FOR THE PROMISE** of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me. 5 For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence."

Act 2:33 "Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father THE PROMISE of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, WHICH YE NOW SEE AND HEAR."

Acts 2:33,39 "THE PROMISE OF THE HOLY GHOST... ***THIS WHICH YE NOW SEE AND HEAR***... THE PROMISE IS UNTO YOU, and to your children, AND TO ALL that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call."

Rom 8:9 "NOW IF ANY MAN HAVE NOT THE SPIRIT of Christ, HE IS NONE OF HIS."

Act 19:2 "Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed?

"Another thing: there has still been no evidence to prove that when scripture speaks of "speaking in tongues" that they are not simply talking about other languages." - Riverfinder

1 Cor 14: 2 "For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue ***SPEAKETH *NOT* UNTO MEN***, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit IN THE SPIRIT HE SPEAKETH MYSTERIES... 4 He that speaketh IN AN UNKNOWN TONGUE EDIFIETH HIMSELF; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church..13 Wherefore let him that speaketh in an unknown tongue PRAY THAT HE MAY interpret. 14 For if ***I PRAY*** IN AN UNKNOWN TONGUE, **MY SPIRIT PRAYETH***, but my understanding is unfruitful. 15 What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also... 17 FOR THOU ***VERILY GIVEST THANKS WELL***, but the other is not edified. 18 I thank my God, I speak with tongues more than ye all..."

1 Cor 14:28 "But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; ***AND*** **LET HIM SPEAK** TO HIMSELF, AND TO GOD... 39 Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and **FORBID NOT** (double negative) TO SPEAK WITH TONGUES.

Joh 4:23 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. 24 God is a Spirit: and THEY THAT WORSHIP HIM ***MUST*** WORSHIP HIM IN SPIRIT ***AND*** IN TRUTH."

1 Cor. 14:14 "For if ***I PRAY*** IN AN UNKNOWN TONGUE, **MY SPIRIT PRAYETH***, but my understanding is unfruitful. 15 What is it then? I WILL PRAY WITH THE SPIRIT, **AND** I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also... 17 FOR THOU ***VERILY GIVEST THANKS WELL***"
